My painting “Abandoned in the Forest” has been selected as a finalist in the Remagine Exhibition which will take place at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, 25 Edgeworth David Avenue, Hornsby, and run from Friday 13 June to Sunday 29 June 2025.
Remagine Art Prize is an environmental art prize dedicated to bringing awareness of environmental challenges such as waste and consumption. Held in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society since 2009, Remagine Art Prize is delivered and sponsored by Hornsby Shire Council.
This year’s theme ‘RE:THINK TO RE:PURPOSE’ refers to the decisions we make each day about how much waste is created, and how materials can be reused to help save precious natural resources. The extraction of raw materials, production, transport, and consumption directly affects the environment, including native wildlife, aquatic species, and birdlife.
Artist Statement: How often do we see abandoned furniture, cars or rubbish on the road side or in paddocks lying around even supermarket trolleys. In my oil painting on canvas "Abandoned in the Forest “ is a view depicting a piece of furniture in decay that I noticed while traveling through a regional country town. The armchair could have been recycled and taken apart and refurbished to become piece furniture again, instead of slowly disintegrating in the forest. Not all abandoned rubbish/furniture disintegrate
